Rob Thomas' "Trust You" - Single Review

Matchbox Twenty frontman and delicious hunk, Rob Thomas, has spent the last few years balancing his band obligations and an impressive solo pop career that kicked off with the release of the infectious and sultry "Lonely No More", which peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned the artist a GRAMMY nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 2006.

Following a second solo album, 2009s Cradlesong, and two solid projects with Matchbox Twenty, 2007s Exile On Mainstream and 2012s North, the "This Is How A Heart Breaks" crooner is set to return to the stage on his own with a brand new album in 2015 and a nationwide tour starting this summer. For the lead single off the upcoming The Great Unknown, Thomas has teamed up with One Republic's Ryan Tedder for the "woo-hoo"-heavy "Trust You", which premiered today on Entertainment Weekly.

On "Trust You", the 43-year-old heartthrob tells the story of that one friend you can never say no to, even if you really wanted to. With a vocal performance strangely reminiscent of Enrique Iglesias, Thomas powers through a beat-driven chorus that discusses the bad decisions the artist seems to be making throughout the night. No matter the choices, trusting the other person keeps Thomas moving forward.

With a fun, energetic pace, exciting and party perfect songwriting and an alluring vocal delivery, the new lead single seems to stick to a sound that would have been found on the artist's debut solo album, rather than his more serious, ballad-filled sophomore effort. "When you say 'hey, come on', I know I will because I trust you," the artist belts on the latest contender for 2015s summer anthem.

Tedder has produced and written for the likes of Adele, Beyonce and Kelly Clarkson, but thankfully he allows Thomas to create something a bit more thrilling than the typical somber ballad. For his first solo effort since 2009, the radio-friendly vibe and carefree lyrics of "Trust You" is already building strong momentum for the artist's upcoming album.

Do we prefer our Thomas riding solo or with the support of his Matchbox Twenty gang?
