President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, Aisha, has left the children’s party, saying he needed to go home and cook dinner for her husband. She said that despite her current status as mother of Nigeria, she still prepares her husband’s meal personally. Mrs. Buhari made this known when she welcomed children from various parts of the country in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to a party to mark the Eid-el-Fitri celebration at the presidential villa, Abuja.
After watching some of the children in dancing, beauty and other contests, the president’s wife excused herself and left the party party. She said: “I’m going to leave you soon. I want to go back home to cook for my husband because my children are here playing with you. Nobody is at home, only my husband. So, I want to go back home to be with him and also cook dinner for him.”
Wives of ex-presidents in Nigeria had always let the excess of chefs and waiters employed to work in their official residence to do the cooking for the first family, while they take the status of First Lady, with cortege of assistants surrounding them. However, Mrs. Buhari dennounced herself as Nigeria’s First Lady when her husband taken office as president.
The president’s wife has also called on children to be thankful to God that they were here celebrating the Sallah with her, unlike many other less favored children out there without the required things of life to cater for themselves. She stated that the Sallah party organised by her, among other reasons, underlines the importance the present government led by her husband attaches to the welfare, protection and development of Nigerian children.
Mrs. Buhari said: “On occasions like this, we celebrate with Nigerian children, especially the less privileged, including those in the various internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp. We love, appreciate and share with their present situation. “The reason for this is to promote warm interaction and sharing what we have with one another. On this note particularly, we decided to celebrate with all children from different background.”
“The future of this great country lies in your hands. You are to compliment the efforts of government by working very hard in school and be obedient to your parents. Tomorrow you may become president, the president s wife, Senator, honourable members, governors, medical doctors, teacher, journalist, engineer, nurse, lawyer and the rest of other honourable professions.”
